During this episode of The Mary Waldon Show, we will learn about EMDR directly from world-renowned researcher and author Francine Shapiro, PhD. Dr. Shapiro is the originator and developer of EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing). EMDR is a psychotherapy treatment that was originally designed to alleviate the distress associated with traumatic memories and has been so well-researched that it is recommended as an effective treatment for trauma in the Practice Guidelines of the American Psychiatric Association, the Department of Defense, and the Department of Veterans Affairs. Dr. Shapiro will discuss EMDR, her latest book, Getting Past Your Past: Taking Control of Your Life with Self-Help Techniques from EMDR Therapy (Rodale), and practical methods listeners can try at home to achieve real and lasting change. Please join me for an in-depth conversation with Dr. Francine Shapiro.
Dr. Shapiro is a Senior Research Fellow Emeritus at the Mental Research Institute in Palo Alto, California, Executive Director of the EMDR Institute in Watsonville, CA, and founder and President Emeritus of the EMDR Humanitarian Assistance Programs, a non-profit organization that coordinates disaster response and low-fee trainings worldwide. Dr. Shapiro has been an invited speaker at psychology conferences worldwide and has written and co-authored more than 60 articles, chapters, and books about EMDR, including Getting Past Your Past: Taking Control of Your Life with Self-Help Techniques from EMDR Therapy (Rodale).
